Simon’s idea to create a Plastic eating fish sculpture 12/12/2018

Simon Dutton, Brand Director of Gloweasy Promotions is very passionate about the environment and takes part in a lot of beach clean activities with his family and friends. Gloweasy Promotions conducts various beach clean activities throughout the year on the beaches like Carlyon Bay, Charlestown Beach & Pentewan sands etc..

Cornwall attracts approximately 4 million visitors per year. The tourists come to Cornwall because of it’s stunning views and beauty.

Some of these tourists throw away plastic rubbish such as plastic cups, plastic water bottles and various things made up of plastic everywhere on the beach see article (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5071495/Mountains-plastic-Cornish-beach.html)

Most of the rubbish thrown away by these holiday makers is plastic and is non biodegradable. Plastic is strong and durable which means that it will never break and will remain here forever. A simple plastic bottle takes approximately 500 years to degrade. Plastic effects the marine life and the food we consume from the Seas.

Simon felt responsible after seeing the lovely beaches ruined each year and being in the business of Eco-branded green promotional marketing products for years Simon knew about the potential environmental hazards and it’s effects caused by this plastic litter.

A Simple & Effective Idea was born

After seeing so many holiday makers and tourists not disposing of the plastic waste and rubbish in a responsible manner. Simon came up with a novel idea of creating and installing one giant Plastic Eating Fish in Cornwall. The fish will have an open mouth through which the visitors can feed it with plastic waste and rubbish.

This fish would serve as a tourist attraction and will also help educate the people and specially children to understand the importance of recycling and keeping the beaches and the environment clean in a responsible, fun and in an exciting way.

Simon is very passionate about the environment and wishes to see a Plastic Free Cornwall one day in his lifetime.
