Self-Illuminated Signs

Gloweasy Self-Illuminated Signs are completely independent of any external power source, require no wiring, no batteries or bulbs, making them 100% self sufficient and maintenance free. Consequently there are no problems with electrical hazards or power failure. The Gloweasy guarantee ensures that your sign will be self-illuminated for ten years. They may even last 15 years plus!

Our calculations show that to externally illuminate your house number by conventional means, over the same 10 year period, would cost between £50 and £80 in electricity bills. So in real terms, the units will pay for themselves whilst giving you peace of mind that you can be found at night.

All signs are white in external colour and the characters (numbers and / or letters) illuminate in green. The unit is made from UV resistant white acrylic and the material surrounding the characters etc is black in colour.

Units are a standard size of 125mm x 85mm x 24mm deep, the lens is a strong 3mm thickness and mounting ears (20mm) on the sides take the two, 5mm, tamper proof, clutch head security screws provided.

Mounting & Construction

Mounting the units couldn't be simpler. They can be fitted to any flat wall or brickwork surface using a standard, flat-head screwdriver.

The unique light source is provided by sealed glass capsules containing a natural substance which produces this remarkable glowing light. The capsules are housed within a precision engineered, weatherproof, high quality, white UV stabilized acrylic material casing. This means the unit is robust and resistant to discolouring.

A full set of placement and mounting instructions are also provided. Once attached, (preferably beyond prying hands) removing them will defeat even the most determined vandal.

Typical character sizes - What size will my numbers and letters be ?

For the horizontal mounting sign, a character height of approximately 70mm (2.75 inches), slightly less for 3 or more digit numbers, means the door numbers can be viewed at a great distance. Number size and thickness are optimised for each individual sign, making them as visible as possible.

Daylight Visibility

Gloweasy Illuminated House Numbers are clearly visible, not only at night, but also in daylight or under street lighting conditions. However, all units perform best if positioned in the darkest area. If you are near street lighting, wait until it is dark to find a suitable shaded spot for your house number.

As you will see these signs compliment most fascias including White Wood or UPVC Double Glazing.

Orientation / Multiple Signs

Using a vertically mounted unit dramatically increases the character height to approximately 100mm (nearly 4 inches), making it viewable from a significantly greater distance.

• House Numbers: a single digit (vertically mounted) number is 100mm high x 20mm wide (for the number 9)
• House Numbers: each digit of a two digit (horizontally mounted) number is 70mm high x 15mm wide (for the number 25)
• House Numbers: each digit of a three digit (horizontally mounted) number is 70mm high x 10mm wide (for the number 205)
• House Numbers: each digit of a four digit (horizontally mounted) number is 65mm high x 10mm wide (for the number 1658)
• Decorative Signs: a single digit (vertical mount only) is 60mm high x 20mm wide (for the number 8)
• Decorative Signs: each digit of a two digit (vertical mount only) is 55mm high x 10mm wide (for the number 24)
• Decorative Signs: each digit of a three digit (vertical mount only) is 55mm high x 8mm wide (for number the 126)
• Nameplates: each letter of, for example, 'THE DEN' (2 lines - horizontally mounted) would be 20mm high x 5mm wide

Comparative Viewing Distances

Approximate night time viewing distances for typical configurations of illuminated House Numbers are as follows:

• Horizontal mounted 2 numbers in a dark location = 12 metres (39 feet)
• Horizontal mounted 2 numbers in street lighting = 6 metres (19.5 feet)
• Nameplates in a dark location = 4 metres (13 feet) plus
• Vertical mounted single number in a dark location = 15 metres (48 feet) plus

Please note that the above figures do NOT apply to Decorative Signs.

For maximum visibility of 2 or more digit numbers, constructing your house number from separate, single vertical digit units is most effective.

Note: Alternatively, pairs of double horizontal digit units can be used for 4 digit numbers, but there will be a gap between the units due to the mounting lugs.

The default font (character type) we use is Arial Black. However, we may change this in order to optimise the illuminated area of your specific sign,

Design Evolution

As you can see, the design of the Gloweasy unit has changed considerably over the years.
Many prototypes and pre-production models have been used to develop the final, mature product.
The main considerations when making a design change are to improve build quality and to reduce production costs.The result is a quality product at a competitive price.

The latest version is shown at the front in white. The new design has now replaced all other versions.
